The "Rémy Martin Napoleon" series has gradually faded from the mainstream market and is now only available in the secondary market. The 1980s Hong Kong edition (colloquially known as "Hong Kong edition") features a red plastic cap, black label, and an all-English back label design. Complete with its red paper box, it is a highly sought-after old liquor among collectors. A transitional version also existed in the 1990s, retaining the Napoleon name but with minor design adjustments.

  • 1990s Transitional Edition Napoleon: Retained the red cap design, label slightly embellished with gold, back label included both Chinese and English.

Dating and Pricing Basis

  1. Back Label Language/Barcode: All-English without barcode = before 1990; bilingual (Chinese and English) with barcode = after 1995. This is the most direct basis for dating.
  2. Cap Material: The red plastic caps of the 1980s were softer and matte; newer versions are harder and shinier. Minor aging (fine cracks on the cap surface) is normal.
  3. Paper Box Quality: The paper boxes of the 1980s showing yellowing from age are considered normal aging. Counterfeits with intentionally aged appearances often have paper that is too new or too damaged.
  4. Fill Level (Liquor Line): Slight evaporation (within half a centimeter) is normal for old liquor from the 1980s. A drop of more than 1 centimeter requires price negotiation.

Dating Authentication

Paper boxes, bottles, and caps of 1980s Hong Kong edition foreign liquors should all show natural signs of age: slight wear on the corners of the paper box, very slight haziness inside the glass bottle, and minor aging cracks on the plastic cap. All characteristics should be natural and uniform; if the paper box is too new but the bottle too old, it might be a bottle swap; if the cap is too new but the paper box is artificially aged, it might be a cap swap. We recommend submitting four photos: the bottle, the top of the cap, the side of the paper box (to show wear), and the back label.
