Dom Pérignon Dom Pérignon Series buyback

Dom Pérignon brand history

Dom Pérignon was founded by the Benedictine monk Pierre Pérignon (commonly known as Dom Pérignon) at the end of the 17th century (about 1668). He is revered as the "father of Champagne". It is said that he improved the Champagne process of secondary fermentation in the bottle. In 1936, Moët & Chandon launched the flagship vintage Champagne series under this name. In 1937, the first Vintage 1921 was launched.

Valuation highlights on this page

  • Dom Pérignon must be divided into Vintage, P2, P3, and Rosé first. The price difference between different versions of the same year is very large.
  • The wooden box, gift box, wine label, tin cap and liquid level should be clearly photographed. Keeping temperature records can improve the accuracy of judgment.
  • If you have Krug or Salon at the same time, you can use the Champagne series page to compare the market prices of the same year.

Extend the valuation route

If you have more than one bottle of wine, you can first group it by brand, level or year, and then use the following series pages to compare similar prices:

Dom Pérignon is a Vintage Only brand (only produces vintage wine, no NV version), and is only produced when it is recognized as a superior vintage by the Cellar Master. For example, only about 40 vintages have been produced in the past 50 years. Each bottle of Vintage is aged at least 7 years before being released (Standard Edition P1).

Dom Pérignon collection logic

  1. P3 is the peak: Plénitude 3 is aged in bottle for over 30 years and is produced in very small quantities each vintage. By the 1980s the P3 had become a regular at international auction houses.
  2. Senior years preferred: 1996, 2002, 2008, 2012 are recognized as high-level. Other common good years: 1985, 1988, 1990, 1995, 2000, 2004, 2009, 2013.
  3. Artist co-branded editions appreciate steadily in value: Collaboration editions with Andy Warhol in the 2010s, Lady Gaga in 2021, Lenny Kravitz in 2022 and others were released in limited quantities. Complete examples with their limited-edition numbers carry a clear premium.
  4. Magnum and Jeroboam: 1.5L Magnum is about 2.5–3 times the size of a standard bottle, and 3L Jeroboam is about 5–7 times the size.

FAQ

Dom Pérignon P2 points with P3?

P2 (Plénitude 2) is a twice-aged version of the original vintage, aged in the bottle for at least 16 years; P3 (Plénitude 3) is a triple-aged version, aged in the bottle for more than 30 years. In the same year, P3 is approximately 2.5–3 times the value of P2, and P2 is approximately 1.5–2 times the value of P1.

Which year is most worth collecting?

The senior years in the past 30 years are 1996, 2002, 2008, and 2012. Among them, 1996 was hailed as the “vintage of the century” due to its excellent grape structure. Due to low inventory, buyback prices for old vintages such as 1985, 1988, and 1990 have risen steadily.

How much does an artist co-branded edition cost?

Depends on circulation and brand popularity. Andy Warhol 2002 Vintage Limited comes with a gift box, which is about 1.5-2 times the price of a standard 2002; recent joint-branded boxes such as Lady Gaga 2021 and Lenny Kravitz 2022 have a premium of about 30-50%.

Why is Dom Pérignon Rosé so expensive?

Rosé (rose vintage wine) is made from Pinot Noir wine, added in small amounts, with a more complex process and smaller volumes. Only 1–2 Rosé vintages are produced for every 7–8 Vintage vintages. Rosé of the same vintage is about 2–3 times the size of the standard version.
