Juyondai sake series buyback

Juyondai brand history

Juyondai is produced by Takagi Shuzo in Yamagata, founded in 1615, and is now led jointly by 15th-generation brewer Tatsugoro Takagi and 16th-generation successor Akitsuna Takagi. The name "Juyondai" comes from the 14th-generation brewer's innovative philosophy. First launched in 1994, it challenged the sake industry's focus on polishing ratios in favour of pursuing excellence with sensible rice polishing. Supply in Japan is scarce and export allocations are even smaller, making it one of the Japanese sakes most sought after in Chinese-speaking markets.

Valuation highlights on this page

  • Juyondai must first be divided into limited edition lines such as Ryusen, Soko, Ryūgetsu, Shichitare Nijukkan, and Hakuun Korai.
  • The year and month of manufacture, refrigeration storage, box certificate and bottle cap status have a greater impact on the valuation than just the brand.
  • It can be sorted together with other sake brands in one batch. For Juyondai, it is recommended to take pictures one by one.

Juyondai collection suggestions

  1. Top three: Ryusen, Soko, and Shichitare Nijukkan are the pinnacle of the Juyondai collection. The original wooden box, Japanese paper, and ribbon are included, which is the key to the premium price.
  2. Bottle number: Summit series bottles have independent serial numbers, which must be clearly legible and correspond to the original box.
  3. Refrigerated storage: Juyondai belongs to the raw wine/raw wine series and needs to be refrigerated (recommended 0–5°C). Long-term storage at room temperature will directly affect the valuation.
  4. Bottle sealability: sake has low alcohol content (generally 16°–17°), and slight leakage at the bottle mouth will significantly reduce the valuation. It is recommended to refrigerate upright and avoid violent shaking.
  5. Good premium for the whole lot: If you have multiple Juyondais (of the same series or across series), you can get an 8–12% wholesale premium for the one-time valuation of the entire batch.

Juyondai buyback process

Since Juyondai is subject to market conditions and is sensitive to the storage environment, Chunxiang Wine Merchants recommends: WhatsApp photos (front and back of the bottle, top of the bottle cap, bottom of the bottle, side of the original wooden box, ribbon/Japanese paper) → get a price return from the appraiser → make an appointment to transport the product in an insulated box → make a cash settlement after on-site bottle inspection. The entire process is usually completed within 24 hours.

FAQ

How do Juyondai Ryusen, Soko and Shichitare Nijukkan differ?

All three are at the peak of Juyondai, and their circulation is very small. Ryusen is famous for its special brewing process; Soko is a commemorative limited edition with a unique bottle design; Shichitare Nijukkan is named after the ancient Japanese rice measurement unit and is brewed using extremely refined rice. All three, complete with original wooden boxes, are high-end collections.

How does Juyondai EXTRA differ from Kuro-Nawa?

Both are limited, high-end Juyondai releases. EXTRA emphasises an exceptional rice-polishing ratio of 35% or less, while Kuro-Nawa represents a more traditional brewing style. A complete wooden box is key to the premium.

Is Juyondai valuable after opening?

Juyondai belongs to sake, which will depreciate significantly after opening (usually more than 70%). Recommended to keep unopened and refrigerated for 1–3 years (depending on series).

Can Juyondai without original wooden box still be sold?

Yes, but the buyback value is about 65-75% of a complete boxed set. Original paper bags and the Japanese-paper insert can partly offset missing packaging. A clearly legible bottle number is essential.
