Hennessy Extra|The hidden aging above XO and under Hennessy Paradis

Hennessy Extra is not a common product line, but a high-end aging wine launched at the same time as XO in 1870. It is positioned between XO and Hennessy Paradis (Paradis). The bottle adopts a Henry IV style matte round bottle design with strong red and gold colors, which is a favorite among experienced collectors. The market circulation is much less than that of XO, so the identification of each Extra must be more careful.

Valuation highlights on this page

  • Hennessy Extra is between XO and Paradis and cannot be roughly estimated by the price of ordinary XO.
  • The old version of the bottle, box, certificate, fill level and sealing status are all the focus of the valuation of high-vintage Cognac.
  • Can be sorted together with Hennessy XO, Hennessy Paradis and Richard Hennessy to clearly distinguish the levels.

Extend the valuation route

If you have more than one bottle of wine, you can first group it by brand, level or year, and then use the following series pages to compare similar prices:

buyback version on sale

Version/Era Identification characteristics and collection points
Matte round bottle Henri IV design The bottle body is made of matte frosted glass, red and gold color, and the bottle neck is wrapped with gold wire.
1980–2000 Old Edition Extra The carton has a red and black gilding design, a pure English back label, and multiple velvet bags.
Current version Hennessy Extra The matte bottle remains, but the box is changed to red and black with an LVMH security code.
Festive Limited Edition/Crystal Edition Released occasionally, the collection price is much higher than the standard version.

Condition and valuation

  1. Matte bottle condition: Scratches on the matte layer will directly reduce the collection price. A light fingerprint oil can clean, but deep scratches will not be removed.
  2. Red and gold color gift box: The carton coating must be complete, and the impact of corner indentations is limited; 10–15% will be deducted if the hot stamping falls off.
  3. Complete flannel bags: The old version often comes with a red velvet bag, so you can add 5–8% if it’s complete.
  4. Characteristics of the year on the back label: Pure English back label means before 2000; Chinese and English bilingual plus LVMH security code means after 2005.

Identify authenticity

The frosted feel of the matte bottle, the accuracy of hot stamping with red gold lines, and the metallic texture of the bottle cap are the most direct identification points. Common flaws of imitation products: the frosted layer is slippery (too smooth to the touch), the red printing is orange, and the seams of the bottle cap are rough. Extra Due to the low market circulation, it is recommended not to appraise the product. Please send four clear pictures of the bottle body, bottle cap, bottle bottom, and close-up of the carton to the appraiser.

EXTRA buyback Process

Since Extra is subject to market conditions, it is recommended to use a WhatsApp video call to have the appraiser remotely verify the details of the bottle and confirm the approximate valuation range. Then make an appointment for a door-to-door interview, on-site price negotiation, and cash settlement. The entire process is usually completed within 24 hours.

FAQ

How does How do Hennessy EXTRA and XO differ?

Extra is the level above XO, and the bottle is a matte frosted round bottle, while XO is a transparent high-shoulder bottle. Extra base wines are usually aged for more than 30 years, and the buyback value is about 1.5–2 times that of XO of the same age.

Can there be fingerprint oil on the matte bottle that can be cleaned?

You can wipe it gently with a clean, soft microfiber cloth. Do not use alcohol or a wet cloth to avoid damaging the frosted layer. Deep scratches cannot be repaired and directly affect the valuation.

Can Extra be sold without the original carton?

Yes. Bare bottles are estimated to be approximately 65–75% of full box price. It is recommended to keep it together with the flannel bag and card for extra points.

Extra is hard to find in Hong Kong, any explanation?

Hennessy Extra is not a main product in the Asia-Pacific region. It is mostly sold in duty-free shops or specialty stores in the form of quotas. Local retailers have small stocks, so the second-hand market circulation is low and the buyback value is relatively stable.
