Martell was founded in Cognac in 1715 by Jersey native Jean Martell and is the oldest of the four major Cognac houses. The swift is the brand's emblem. Martell blends eaux-de-vie from Borderies and Fins Bois and is the only one of the four major houses to focus on these two crus. Borderies grapes give Martell its distinctive floral and nutty notes, while Fins Bois adds roundness and balance, producing an elegant, refined style.
If you have more than one bottle of wine, you can first group it by brand, level or year, and then use the following series pages to compare similar prices:

At the top of the range are L'Or de Jean Martell in its gold crystal decanter, Création Grand Extra, and Extra in the blue Neptune decanter. The middle tier includes Cordon Bleu and XO Suprême, while VSOP is the entry tier. The discontinued 1980s white-cap Cordon Bleu can be worth more than the current edition.
Both are four major Cognac houses. Martell focuses on the Borderies production area, with a more floral and elegant taste; Hennessy uses a blend of four major production areas, with a richer and more intense taste. Collectors' preference is a matter of personal taste, with market circulation being slightly higher for the Hennessy.
Plain-cap Cordon Bleu refers to the white metal-cap edition of Cordon Bleu from the 1980s–1990s. Today's cap is plastic; the earlier metal cap carried no extra wording, which led to its nickname. Gold-ring XO refers to the 1980s XO edition with a gold metal cap and a gold-ring design. Both are discontinued and frequently searched for by collectors.
Normal. It is common for old wines from the 1980s and 1990s to deduct 8-12% of the valuation due to the aging of the cork. Drops of liquid exceeding 1 cm reflect a decrease in sealing performance, with a 20–25% deduction.
